God’s Prayer Center on West Broadway was established by a Christian seamstress from this North Minneapolis neighborhood in May 2008. For the previous twelve years, the shopkeeper on West Broadway had a front row seat to the increasing murder, drug dealing and addiction problems plaguing the area. Eventually her customer base withered away as clients became fearful and avoided entering this zone of violence.
The seamstress considered moving her business elsewhere, but felt the call to stay and to help bring transformation to those trapped in the poverty, despair and decay. With help from supporters, she transformed her alterations shop into a place of prayer and Christian love. Her mission would no longer be about making clothing alterations, but would focus on altering lives through the power of Jesus Christ.
It’s her great hope that God’s Prayer Center can be one of the catalysts that leads to the transformation of the North Side and to the healing that is so desperately needed in this neighborhood.
